Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is responsible for as much as 80 percent of the “success” in our lives.

Emotional Intelligence or EQ is the ability to understand, manage, and positively use emotions. EQ coupled with IQ and mindfulness results in the ultimate success of a person in society. EQ drives a lot of areas of our lives such as rational decision making, physical health, relationship management, conflict resolution, performance at work, and social well -being. By reconnecting with our emotions, accepting them as they are, we can control our emotional outbursts or impulsive reactions and see the world in a more empathetic way.

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage our emotions. It not only involves an assessment of what emotion we are feeling, but also a proper address backed with reasons for effective resolution. It involves a series of small baby steps to be performed over a long duration to improve upon the management of emotions.

It comprises of few key elements:

  • Emotional Awareness: It is the ability to identify the emotions experienced by self as well as others. On being emotionally aware, you will be able to relate to others and communicate effectively.
  • Emotion Regulation: It is an ability to exert control over one’s emotions and rethinking the difficult situations to reduce negativity, anxiety, sadness, and focus on the positive. The two major types of emotion regulations are, down-regulation, reducing the intensity of disempowering emotions and up regulation which means ramping up of empowering emotions.
  • Internal Motivation: When you are driven by a purpose or cause and find it a self-fulfilling you are driven by internal motivation. It has been scientifically proven that people with internal motivation, rather than brownie points or rewards, are more committed, passionate, and action-oriented towards their goals in life.
  • Empathy: The ability to understand what other person is feeling with compassion, love, and power of the heart is known as empathy. It promotes building healthy relationships, helping behaviors, and management of one’s own emotion
